Orinoc Tribune, June 6, 2024 —

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has rejected the proposals of right-wing sectors that have shown that they intend to privatize education in Venezuela in their presidential campaign framework.

“There are people who want to privatize education, and we cannot let them come to power,” warned the president this Wednesday, June 5, from a ceremony revealing the refurbished “Guillermo Cova” National School in Miranda state. “They want to privatize education like they did in Argentina,” he continued, asking the people to defend our free and quality educational system.

“We must be aware that we are defending the right to the future,” reflected the head of state before the students of the educational institution. “Do not let it be taken away from you! The right to the future is guaranteed with the people united.”

President Maduro said that in his government, he will continue working to “improve free and quality public education.” During his visit to the Miranda state, the president also fulfilled 9,500 new financing plans to entrepreneurs of the region as part of the Great Venezuelan Women’s Mission and the Great Venezuelan Youth Mission.

“I hope that the economy we are building has fundamental support in entrepreneurship in the family, in the community. Count on all my support, Miranda entrepreneurs!” he added.

The school
The refurbished school was originally founded in 1984. It has 92 workers operating as teaching, administrative, and staff, and has an enrolment of 985 middle school students.

Susana Villegas, director of the school, mentioned that the military community brigades for education (Bricomiles) were doing great work. “In this institution, a fairly arduous remodeling was carried out committed to the sense of awareness for all of us who are here,” she said, “and we are giving this project life in our society, both for students, staff, community, UBCHs, and street organizations. We have and will continue to give the best of each of us in behavior and attitude, and we will continue to attest to the social strength of our house of studies.”

The high school had two kilometers of asphalt covering applied, the electrical and lighting systems were changed, pipes for drinking water and sewage were replaced, the external façade was remodeled, and renovations were conducted for rooms dedicated to painting, blacksmithing, as well as 26 other classrooms, ten conference halls, a library, a kitchen, a canteen, a multipurpose field, and other outdoor environments.

They also renovated five physics, chemistry, mathematics, and biology laboratories, which were fully equipped, including with tables, chairs, desks, and other furniture. A telematic and computer room was additionally created there.

Yelitza Bravo, head of the Bolivar Chávez Battle Unit (UBCH), stated that this dream of the children receiving a decent education after the struggles prior to the leadership of Commander Chávez is continuing to grow and come true.
