Pezeshkian Calls for Common Regional Currency to Boost Development

President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian called for greater unity and cooperation among the regional and Islamic countries, proposing the establishment of a common currency to promote economic growth and integration.
Speaking with Tajikistan’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Colonel General Rakhimzoda Ramazon Hamro, on the sidelines of the 4th ECO Interior Ministers Meeting in Tehran on Tuesday, Pezeshkian highlighted the shared religious and cultural heritage of regional nations as a foundation for deeper collaboration.
He noted that Iran and Tajikistan enjoy profound cultural and historical bonds that should be utilized to expand cooperation in all fields.
Pezeshkian stressed that security remains a key prerequisite for economic and social development, calling for closer coordination to safeguard borders and combat threats such as terrorism and drug trafficking.
The president also urged the creation of a structured framework to promote cooperation among businesspeople, academics, and professionals in cultural, scientific, economic, and medical sectors.
He further warned that external actors might attempt to undermine the positive relations among regional countries, emphasizing that unity would strengthen their collective position.
Pezeshkian also praised the deep-rooted ties between the people of Iran and Tajikistan and asked Rakhimzoda to convey his warm greetings to Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.
For his part, the Tajik minister underlined the importance of security as the basis for expanding economic relations and expressed his country’s commitment to joint efforts against terrorism and trafficking.
He also voiced a strong desire to enhance cultural cooperation, saying that the people of Tajikistan regard Tehran as their second home, and called for broadening collaboration in all areas.
