Iran today has made its attendance at peace talks in Islamabad contingent on an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon, warning of severe repercussions, including the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz, if Israeli aggression persists.

Iran has conditioned its attendance at a crucial meeting in Pakistan on the immediate implementation of a ceasefire in Lebanon, as reported by The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, April 8.

This precondition underscores the escalating regional tensions and the interconnectedness of various Middle East fronts.

According to Pakistani authorities, both Iranian and United States delegations were scheduled to arrive in Islamabad this Friday to participate in the first round of discussions. These talks are aimed at achieving a definitive resolution to the ongoing war that has plagued the region for 40 days.

The decision by Tehran to link its participation to the situation in Lebanon highlights its deep concern over the persistent Israeli aggression and its solidarity with the country.

Furthermore, Tehran has issued a stark warning, conveyed through diplomatic channels, that it would reconsider the possibility of not reopening the Strait of Hormuz if attacks against Lebanon and Iran continue. This strategic strait, a vital global oil shipping choke point, is critical for international energy markets.

In a related diplomatic effort, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi addressed the allegations of ceasefire violations by Israeli forces in Lebanon and Iran during a telephone conversation with Pakistani Army Chief, General Asim Munir. Separately, Ali Bahreini, Iran’s representative to the United Nations in Geneva, emphasized the critical importance of Israel adhering to the ceasefire in Lebanon, warning of grave consequences should violations persist.

Further intensifying the pressure, Ebrahim Rezaei, Spokesperson for the National Security Committee of the Iranian Parliament, urged the immediate interruption of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. This measure was proposed as a direct response to the aggression against Lebanon, demonstrating a coordinated approach among various Iranian political and military bodies to leverage their strategic assets. Concurrently, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a stern warning to the United States and Israel, vowing a forceful response if aggressions against Lebanon do not cease.

In its communiqué number 56 of Operation True Promise 4, the IRGC explicitly stated: “Just hours after the ceasefire agreement, the Zionist entity perpetrated a brutal massacre in Beirut.” This accusation directly attributes the violation of the truce to Israel, fueling Iranian resolve.

These pronouncements follow a series of large-scale attacks by Israel in various areas of Lebanon, including Beirut, the Beqaa Valley, the southern region of the country, and Mount Lebanon.

The continued Israeli military operations, despite ongoing mediation efforts, underscore the deep-seated conflict and the challenges in achieving lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.

Lebanon experienced today one of its bloodiest days since the beginning of the Israeli aggression. The Zionist bombing has left at least 89 killed and 700 wounded, according the information given by a spokesman of the Ministry of Health.

Early in the morning, Israel launched massive bombings against what it calls the “nerve centers” of Lebanon’s Islamic Resistance Movement Hezbollah, in an operation that defies recent diplomatic efforts in the region. According to the self-styled Israel Defense Forces (IDF), its aircraft completed in just 10 minutes the largest coordinated attack on Lebanese territory since the start of Operation “Roaring Lion”

The aggression was aimed at 100 targets in Beirut, Beqaa and the south of the country, including, according to the Zionist entity, intelligence centers (headquarters used for planning operations), facilities with firepower (naval infrastructure and missile launch batteries) and elite units (Radwan Force assets and Hezbollah air unit). Dozens of bombed civilian homes and infrastructure, including collapsed hospitals, are reported, worsening the humanitarian crisis.

Several of the impacts occurred in high residential and commercial density areas such as Manara, Barbir, Corniche al-Mazraa and Burj Abi Haidar. The Lebanese Ministry of Health has confirmed that hospitals are overwhelmed by the massive influx of victims.
