Cuba denounces US sanctions as a “genocidal war” against its people

teleSUR, July 14, 2026 —
President Miguel Díaz-Canel denounced that the United States government applied new coercive measures against ten Cuban entities to stifle the island’s economy.
The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, spoke out regarding the new unilateral coercive measures of the United States Government against the largest of the Antilles, which he denounced as reinforcing the scheme of economic aggression that aims to cause greater damage to the quality of life of the population.
The Cuban leader warned that the Caribbean nation faces a genocidal plan of suffocation, which was formally presented to the United Nations (UN) less than a week ago.
“Another week, another list of ‘sanctions’ against Cuba. It’s the United States’ war and its eagerness to strangle our economy ,” wrote the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) on his social media account.
As part of its policy of harassment and economic strangulation, the administration of US President Donald Trump extended the financial blockade by adding ten entities on the island to its unilateral list of restrictions , affecting the Ministry of Tourism and key companies for foreign trade, import of supplies and energy management, such as ENETEC SA, Coreydan SA and the Foreign Trade Business Group (GECOMEX).
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla condemned this new package of extraterritorial sanctions , stating that Washington’s objective is to deprive the country of legitimate income and collectively punish the people, in a context where the international community overwhelmingly supported the debate at the UN to demand the definitive end of the blockade.

Meanwhile, a delegation of Democratic congressmen from the United States , including Delia Ramírez, Teresa Leger-Fernández, Mark Pocan, and Maxine Dexter, concluded an official visit to Havana where they witnessed the impact of the energy blockade imposed by Washington , describing the reality of the Cuban people under the concept of “a silent Gaza.”
US lawmakers held high-level meetings with President Miguel Díaz-Canel, ministers, medical personnel, and entrepreneurs, warning about the paralysis of daily life due to the lack of electricity, food, and essential medical supplies.
During the exchange with the press, Congressman Mark Pocan criticized the absence of bilateral negotiations and directly pointed to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio for conducting policy towards the island from a position of personal hostility.
The delegation noted that the aggressions are intensifying with the recent inclusion of ten strategic Cuban entities, such as the Ministry of Tourism , import corporations, and the fuel sector, on the Treasury Department’s unilateral sanctions list, a maneuver that seeks to stifle the Cuban economy under false pretenses of national security and unfounded accusations of storing foreign weapons on the island.
