CPC Membership Surpasses 100 million

The most authoritative source for understanding the inner workings of the Communist Party of China is its annual statistical report.
As of December 31, 2024, the Communist Party of China (CPC) had a total membership of 100.271 million, representing a net increase of 1.086 million compared to the end of 2023, an annual growth rate of 1.1%.
The CPC currently has 5.25 million primary-level Party organizations, a net increase of 74,000 over the previous year, marking a growth rate of 1.4%. Among them, there are 306,000 primary-level Party committees, 330,000 general Party branches, and 4.614 million Party branches.
1. Composition of Party Membership
By Gender, Ethnicity, and Educational Attainment
• There are 30.995 million female Party members, accounting for 30.9% of the total.
• Ethnic minority Party members number 7.734 million, accounting for 7.7%.
• Members with a junior college degree or above total 57.786 million, accounting for 57.6%.
By Age
• 12.272 million members are aged 30 and below.
• 10.764 million aged 31–35.
• 11.475 million aged 36–40.
• 9.687 million aged 41–45.
• 9.041 million aged 46–50.
• 9.412 million aged 51–55.
• 8.646 million aged 56–60.
• 28.973 million aged 61 and above.
By Time of Admission
• 54,000 members joined the Party before the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
• 12.309 million joined between the founding of the PRC and the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee.
• 59.80 million joined between that session and the 18th CPC National Congress.
• 28.108 million joined since the 18th National Congress.
By Occupation
• 6.639 million workers (including technical and service personnel).
• 26.144 million farmers, herders, and fishers.
• 16.394 million professional and technical personnel in enterprises, public institutions, and social organizations.
• 11.563 million managerial personnel in enterprises, public institutions, and social organizations.
• 7.592 million personnel in Party and government organs.
• 2.622 million students.
• 7.849 million in other occupations.
• 21.469 million retired personnel.
2. Recruitment of New Party Members
In 2024, a total of 2.131 million new members were admitted to the Party.
By Gender, Ethnicity, Age, and Educational Background
• 979,000 new female members, accounting for 46.0%.
• 223,000 new ethnic minority members, accounting for 10.5%.
• 1.784 million members aged 35 and below, accounting for 83.7%.
• 1.159 million with a junior college degree or above, accounting for 54.4%.
By Occupation
• 149,000 workers (including technical and service personnel).
• 346,000 farmers, herders, and fishers.
• 299,000 professional and technical personnel in enterprises, public institutions, and social organizations.
• 221,000 managerial personnel in enterprises, public institutions, and social organizations.
• 101,000 personnel in Party and government organs.
• 812,000 students.
• 203,000 in other occupations.
• 1.120 million new members were recruited from the front lines of production and work.
3. Commendations Within the Party
In 2024, Party organizations at all levels across the country commended:
• 175,000 advanced primary-level Party organizations
• 728,000 outstanding Communist Party members
• 240,000 outstanding Party affairs workers
In addition, a total of 894,000 commemorative medals marking “50 Years of Glory in the Party” were awarded throughout the year.
4. Applications for Party Membership
By the end of 2024, a total of 21.42 million individuals nationwide had submitted formal applications to join the Communist Party of China.
Among them, 10.611 million were identified by Party organizations as prospective members under active cultivation—individuals who have formally applied and are undergoing planned training and assessment for potential admission.
5. Party Organizations
Local Party Committees
There are 3,200 Party committees at various local levels across the country, including:
• 31 at the provincial (provincial-level regions) level
• 397 at the prefectural (municipal/prefecture) level
• 2,772 at the county (county/district/flag) level
Party Organizations in Urban Subdistricts, Townships, Communities, and Administrative Villages
Party organizations have been established in 9,160 urban subdistricts, 29,607 townships, 121,270 communities, and 486,326 administrative villages, with coverage rates all exceeding 99.9%.
Party Organizations in Government Agencies, Public Institutions, Enterprises, and Social Organizations
There are currently:
• 800,000 grassroots Party organizations in government agencies
• 1.001 million in public institutions
• 1.6 million in enterprises
• 183,000 in social organizations
