Appeal of the Communist Parties of Russia to the Communist and Workers’ Parties

Communist Party of the Russian Federation, February 25, 2026 —

Dear comrades,

Like many communist parties, we have closely followed the course of the recent 22nd Congress of the Communist Party of Greece and the decisions adopted there.

We recognize the merits of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) as a fighting party with a glorious history of anti-fascist struggle. We also remember and value the KKE’s contribution to organizing the international communist movement during the period of reaction following the collapse of the Soviet Union. We had hoped that the decisions of the congress would strengthen the ranks of the Greek communists and contribute to the consolidation of the international communist movement. But this did not happen.

Having reviewed the materials of the congress of our Greek comrades published on the Solidnet website, we leave them the right to their own point of view and assessments, both of the international situation and of the positions of specific parties. We do not intend to immediately dismiss their evaluations or criticize their position, although we fundamentally disagree with it. However, we categorically reject the statements and assessments made in the Central Committee’s report regarding our common movement — the International Meetings of Communist and Workers’ Parties (IMCWP). The comrades state that, having been initiated at the KKE’s initiative, these meetings have gradually exhausted their potential, lost the meaning of their existence and their original significance, having turned into an arena of sharp and fruitless discussions, thereby aggravating the prolonged crisis of the communist movement.

To put it briefly and directly: having adopted what we consider to be a profoundly erroneous position in assessing the ongoing war in Ukraine and in other regions, the comrades cannot withstand scientific argumentation and are retreating — almost fleeing — from the field of theoretical struggle. The comrades began by imposing censorship on the posting of materials on the Solidnet website, and now they declare that the IMCWP has lost its purpose. Simply put, the KKE is advocating the dissolution of the community. We note that we are witnessing a familiar tactic of evading theoretical struggle. The comrades from the KKE acted in this way in relation to the European Communist Initiative and the editorial board of the journal KomObzor. They arbitrarily closed the project, excluded all those who disagreed with their dubious theories of the “pyramid” and their denial of the historical practice of the communist movement, including the legacy of the Comintern, and together with parties that follow them uncritically, created their own community that distorts Lenin’s teaching on imperialism. We note that the comrades not only use their position as the party managing the Solidnet website, but also effectively initiate and support divisive actions by various anti-party groups in other parties.

In words, the comrades declare that: “Faithful to the principle of proletarian internationalism, taking into account the international character of the class struggle and the need for a unified strategy of the communist movement, the KKE is fighting for the formation of a Marxist-Leninist pole and the revolutionary reorganization of the European and international communist movement.” But in practice, the KKE’s actions narrow the front of struggle against imperialism and, through its erroneous policy, willingly or unwillingly help the main imperialist aggressor shift part of the responsibility onto competing forces — Russia, China, and others. The comrades stubbornly fail to see that the same predatory pack of imperialist predators is organizing the genocide of the Palestinian people, waging aggression through the hands of Nazis in Ukraine against Russia, pressuring Venezuela and Cuba, Iran and the DPRK, and others. And it is altogether unbecoming that the comrades from the KKE openly evade the struggle against real, living fascists in Ukraine. The war has been ongoing since 2014, yet they condemn what they call Russia’s unjustified intervention in February 2022, when more than 15,000 people had already died. Completely unjustifiably, the KKE also condemns and slanders the holding of “anti-fascist forums” and the events of the “World Anti-Imperialist Platform,” primarily because criticism of the KKE’s position is voiced there. As stated in the report: “… an anti-KKE mission is being carried out.”

Our parties are firmly convinced of the need to continue the functioning of the International Meetings of Communist and Workers’ Parties (IMCWP) and the Solidnet website. At the same time, we believe that one must not evade discussion of sharp and fundamental issues of the movement; it is necessary to ensure the possibility of a free exchange of opinions and the conduct of scientific theoretical struggle. We oppose a split on the basis of the erroneous positions of our Greek comrades. We stand for the preservation of Solidnet and for the direct expression of parties’ views and scientific methods of conducting discussions. Only those who lack confidence in themselves fear theoretical struggle. Our parties are confident in themselves, just as they are confident in the correctness of Marxist-Leninist theory.

The task of the day is the formation of a united anti-imperialist, anti-fascist front. We propose dedicating the 24th International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties in 2026 in Cuba to this issue.
